Descriptive Essay - My Pencil Was Gently Grazing My Notebook

My pencil was gently grazing my notebook as I passed the time waiting for seventh period to end. Suddenly the bell rang and everyone in the school flooded the halls like a tsunami in full force. The goal, get to the pep rally first. Why? You might ask. Everyone wanted to be in the front and center, but my friends didn’t. I walked into the pep rally, and not to my surprise none of my friends were there. â€Å"They all skipped didn’t they.†, I thought slightly annoyed to myself. I actually enjoy these things and wanted to make the most of my senior year, by attending. â€Å"It’s whatever†, I thought to myself. I wasn’t mad I expected it, but right when all hope was lost my friend Alyssa showed up. She was the good one of the friend group, honest†¦show more content†¦Ã¢â‚¬Å"You ready?†, I asked while smiling and excited for the night to come. â€Å"Of course†, she replied sweetly, and with a smile that was brighter than the full moon. We walked in casually, and briefly talking amongst ourselves about school and what not. We walked in and went straight to the ticket booth. Well table more or less. There was more than one person accepting money and handing out tickets, so we both were paying at the same time. One of the teachers working the ticket stand was, Mrs. Bunna, she was my ACT prep teacher. Now I knew I wasn’t her favorite, mostly because I would sleep during our practice tests, but it was a pass or fail class that didn’t affect my gpa. So I could’ve cared less. â€Å"Hello.† I said to her with a large smile, genuinely trying to be nice to her. â€Å"Hello Shane, it seems like you’re lucky tonight.† she replied with a slight grin in her smile. â€Å"What do you mean?† I asked surprised and slightly confused. â€Å"Here, it’s the last one.†, she replied, handing me an orange towel to wave around during the game. At first I thought not hing of it other than that it was cool to get the last one. We both had our tickets and walked through the heavy doors of the gym to find our seats. When the doors opened there was a certain energy that you could fell in the air. The stands were full on both sides enjoying the girls’ game and eagerly awaiting the boys’ game. Time period is everything, people in the two thousands are more reserved in thoughts than people were in eighteen and nineteen hundreds. This exemplifies why Sigmund Freuds making of the Oedipal Complex is outrageous. Freud’s ideas of a child’s development is very graphic and disturbing to our modern day intellect, but fit the norm of early 1900’s society Oedipus the King, written is 440 B.C., by Sophacles has fascinated audiences for many years. However, Sigmund Freud came up with the ‘Oedipal Complex’ based off of this play that has caused plenty of controversy. He believed that, based of Oedipus the King and the attraction Oedipus had to his mother, that all children share the same desire towards the opposite sex parent. From that one instance, he created an entire complex that graphically lays out a child’s development. It is possible for a child to be attracted to their opposite sex parent at some point in time. But, taking it as far as Freud did in stating that the child wants to diminish the other parent is absurd. Clearly, he misinterpreted the text because that is not at all what happened in Oedipus the King. Oedipus did not intentionally kill his father nor marry his mother. These events occurred due to the fate of Oedipus, which he could not alter. He was separated from his parents at birth and did not find out till the end of the play who they were. A measurement scale is defined and set for the determination of the performance. For instance, the highest level that an organization may achieve as per the maturity model may be level 3 or 4. In such a case, the assessment guidelines will be formed on the basis of the scale that is set accordingly. XYZ organization is a level 3 organization and the scale would therefore be developed accordingly The next step is to decide upon the Key Result Areas (KRAs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Key Result Areas (KRAs): These areas are also referred as the critical success factors and are the strategic factors that may be internal or external to the organization. It is these areas in which the strong positive results must be achieved and reflected. The key result areas in the project would include. Affinity Diagrams The second method which may be used to use the reflection results for assessing the performance and measure the same are the affinity diagrams or tools. Affinity diagram refers to the graphical representation in the form of a diagram which is used for the organization of ideas and data that are associated with a particular organization. It is used to sort the ideas on the basis of the relationship that is reflected through the diagram. There is a process that is defined for the use of the affinity diagrams which is as described below. The information that is required to be assessed is first written down and recorded in the form of sticky notes. The opinions and ideas of all the team members are recorded in this steps and every participant is recommended to come up with at least five or more sticky notes. Once the process of recording the ideas on the sticky notes is completed, the same are put on a wall. The team members and the participants in the activity are then called one by one to take a look at the sticky notes present on the wall and come up with their opinions and the relationships that they could acquire by the same. The team members are also asked to sort and put the information and ideas present on the wall in to defined groups or themes on the basis of the relationship. The team members are also asked to write the titles for the group or their specific sticky notes (Hqontario, 2016). The affinity diagrams are very applicable in the process of reflection and performance measurement as these help in the understanding of the complex issues that are involved and the resolution of the same. It is monitored by the leaders to examine the ideas that are put up by the individual team members to understand their level of thinking and the learning experience along with the abilities such as decision making and problem solving. It has been used in the organization to determine the specific traits associated with the professional behavior of an employee. Conclusion Performance measurement of the employee is an important parameter that is required to be assessed accurately and correctly. The activities such as appraisals, promotions and likewise take place on the basis of the results of this activity only. If the correct results are not attained, then there may be incorrect judgments made by the managers and the same may negatively impact the productivity of the employees that give in their hundred percent in terms of performance. They might look a little different in each church setting, but are issues that had to be dealt with from the earliest times. The issues in their selves do not matter, but how you handle them means everything. How you come to handle adversity in you ministry can make or break a pastor. Paul is one of the best biblical examples to pattern after. He writes a road map for pastors in his book of Second Corinthians. Every pastor should at some point, study this letter in depth. In the first part of the letter you see Paul going through one of the most nerve wracking ,and make you want to quit, times in his entire life. He is insulted and taunted, accused of not being sincere, being prideful, and boastful. On top of all the insults they attack his preaching, his weaknesses, and call him a deceiver and cheat. Wow! , enough to make you want to turn tale and run. During all this Paul was in a lonely dungeon waiting to be beheaded, but he does not think of his problems or bemoan his lot in life, he only thinks of his beloved church at Cornith. Paul writes to Timothy about leadership and what he is telling Timothy can help all pastors today. In this letter to the Chorenthians Paul gives the New Testament’s best look at what life is like for a minister of the gospel. Paul knew that many of the leaders in Corinth wanted the glory, but only a few wanted to suffer for it, as Christ had. Paul was hurt, because his people, the people he ministered to and discipled, could not see through the self-seeking schemes of those around, trying to persuade them down the wrong path. Paul knew this could damage a church body and was dealing then with issues we still face today. In his book â€Å"Clergy Killers† G.lloyd Rediger says, â€Å"Abuse of pastors by congregations and the breakdown of pastors due to inadequate support are now tragic realities. This worst-case scenario, one that is increasing in epidemic proportions, is not a misinterpretation by a few discontented clergy. Rather,it is a phenomenon that is verified by both research and experience†¦. Pastors have become more vulnerable, parishioners more confused and less courageous, denominational offices more political, and our whole society more numb to abuse and conflict. Together these factors create opportunity for abuse of spiritual leaders and even encourage its development.† Paul faced the same dangers and knew he had to put an immediate stop to the discontent.Even though he loved the people, he knew he had to be firm, â€Å"We are not withholding our affection from you, but you are withholding yours from us.†(2 Corin. 6:12).He loved them dearly, but he loved them so much he could not let them destroy themselves. Philip E.Hughes writes, â€Å"It must be emphasized that Paul is not moved by self-concern he willingly endures for Christ’s sake any number of affronts and indignities to his own person. But when the genuineness of his apostleship is called into question, that is something he dare not endure in silence, for it is no less a challenge to the authority of Christ himself†. (The New International Commentary: second Corin. Page 477) Today our churches are loosing pastors at an alarming rate. What keeps ministers from leaving the ministry? What kind of character does a pastor need to minister to parishioners, who on the most part, love to complain, provoke and ignore? Most pastors stay the course, as Paul did, their emotions might fail them, they might become weary, but their faith in Christ never fails. Two important things are needed in a pastor’s life that helps deal with unwelcome situations, a strong sense of their call and a deep love and concern for their flock. To go along with these two essentials you need to develop strong, godly team leaders, â€Å"Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, self controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect. (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of the church?) He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil. He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devils trap.† (1 Tim.3:2-8), having Godly people you can count on will go along way in thwarting adversity. Paul told Timothy; be zealous, be courageous, be faithful and be enduring. Ministry is like being a Farmer; your reward will come at the end, after the work is done. It’s not unusual to want to run from adversity, we are weak in the area of endurance. In your bible, it clearly shows this is not the answer. If this response was practiced many of the dearly loved bible stories would have had a different ending and would have inspired no one. We can not accomplish much that’s worthwhile and not endure opposition. Think for a moment what your parents went through raising you? Anything for our good was â€Å"old fashioned† or â€Å"you just don’t understand† We did not care for anything that was good for us. There is always a purpose for adversity. It’s also two-sided, one side positive; stimulating you to spiritual growth; the opposite side has the potential to defeat and destroy your ministry. Sometimes, the purpose is to keep us humble and our egos in check. The main reason is to grow our trust and faith in God and his ability. When we turn to him, his promise to be our strength will carry us through. The way we respond to adversity shows our true view of God. Many times we ask â€Å"why lord†, sometimes God shows us and sometimes he never makes it known. At times God has to prepare our hearts before he shows us his purpose. Other times adversity comes because of some sin in our lives; pride being the biggest offender. If we search our hearts we can see this might be so and confess and repent; usually the adversity goes with the repentance. Sometimes adversity is the enemy’s doing. In the book of Job (1:6-12) satin brought temptation into Job’s life. Temptations are the underlying factor in much of our troubles. Satin is not allowed, however, to do anything God does not permit. All adversity comes from us, from satin, working around us and in others, or from what God allows in our lives. Nothing happens in our life outside the knowledge of God, who strengthens us to overcome all. Adversity reveals our weaknesses and our strengths. It reveals our willingness to forgive, and it increases our faith in god. Good advice in handling adversity is to face it and not run from it. We can never get far from it, as it always follows, wherever we may run or what church we may try to find. The goal is not to have a problem free ministry; this will never happen. Your goal should be to deal with problems, and problem people, in a biblical manner. Sometimes as pastors, we light the fuse ourselves, because of the way we deal with problems; we need to be skillful and biblical. Adversity is an accurate gage of our spiritual life. If we want to measure our level of faith, we need to look at how we handle our troubles. We need to ask ourselves; how am I handling my circumstances? Am I exhibiting patience, self-control and love? Am I relying on God’s strength and not my own? God has called you to minister to his beloved people; do not be fearful and do not give up. â€Å"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. Morality vs. Obedience Essay Beliefs and knowledge are both dynamic concepts on all organizational levels of the human experience, from the individual to the global. Lets take for example the statement, â€Å"The Earth is flat. † Five hundred years ago, this statement was knowledge. Today, it’s knowledge that this statement is false. Knowledge changes based on the information and evidence available to us at any point in time. This is also true of beliefs but in a different way. When most of us were young, we believed in the Tooth Fairy. Why? Because someone told us she was real. However, this belief changed as we began to mature and rely more upon our own abilities to discern truth from fiction. Thus, we have established that both knowledge and belief are subjective but for different reasons. Belief requires no evidence, while knowledge requires evidence and/or experience. I would now like to make a comparative argument regarding morality and obedience. Simply put, morality is ‘doing what’s right, regardless of what anyone says’ and obedience is ‘doing what your told, regardless of what’s right. One can think of many examples regarding these concepts as they are defined but I will leave this to the reader’s imagination. There is a simple truth to defining obedience and morality in this manner that I find directly comparable to the examined quotation. Neither belief nor obedience require an individual or group to actively engage in an activity or thought process independently. There is no critical thinking involved and one must put their faith in the ‘rightness’ or ‘truth’ of another’s belief, knowledge or otherwise. Both knowledge and morality require active engagement. One cannot possess knowledge without having evidence to back it up and one cannot act morally without understanding what it is that makes a situation right or wrong in their eyes. This is especially true when acting morally requires someone to go against social norms or established laws. The point of this paper is to shed light on the fact that we are all responsible for ourselves to the extent that we can be. No one person can know everything about everything, so belief and obedience are often useful and easy fallbacks. For example, I don’t snowboard on black diamond slopes. This is not because I have knowledge of how hurt I will get but because I belief the sign posting and obediently board within my level to avoid possible injury. However, in every decision one makes there should be a component of knowledge and morality applied. In application to the snowboarding example, I know, from experience, that my snowboarding skills are not on par with a black diamond. I choose not to risk my health and the resources of first responders by making the moral decision to stay off of it, despite my desire to challenge myself.

This was the beginning of the feudal nations. Other provinces would evolve, but for the most part these were the more prominent countries. The children of the men who owned the land would inherit the land as well as any other property owned by their fathers. This tradition kept rich people rich and poor people poor. People who exchanged their land for protection were shielded from opposing enemies by knights, infantrymen and horsemen. "The vassal rendered to his lord certain services in addition to supplying his quota of armed knights " (Bishop 110). The primary defense for a lord was his knight. AThe knights formed the core of the lord=s household; many of them lived permanently within the castle walls and were fed and housed by him@ (Barbara 269). The PC industry began in 1977 when Apple Computer, Inc. (now  Apple Inc.), introduced the Apple II. Radio Shack and Commodore Business Machines also introduced PCs that year.  IBM  entered the PC market in 1981. The IBM PC, with increased memory capacity and backed by IBMs large sales organization, quickly became the industry standard. Apples Macintosh (1984) was particularly useful for  desktop publishing.  Microsoft Corp. introduced MS  Windows(1985), a  graphical user interface  that gave PCs many of the capabilities of the Macintosh, initially as an overlay of  MS-DOS. Windows went on to replace MS-DOS as the dominant  operating syst em  for personal computers. Uses of PCs multiplied as the machines became more powerful and application  software  proliferated. Today, PCs are used for  word processing,  Internet  access, and many other daily tasks. Computer servers Computer servers are among the most important infrastructure in any organization. Although  computer  servers used to only be a part of enterprise networks, servers have now become a part of smaller, home or office networks. For enterprise applications, servers are usually high-powered machines that can handle many requests from clients. Embedded Computer An  embedded system  is a special-purpose  computer  system, which is completely encapsulated by the device it controls. An embedded system has specific requirements and performs pre-defined tasks, unlike a general-purpose  personal computer. Programs on an embedded system often must run with  real-time  constraints with limited  hardware  resources: often there is no disk drive, operating system, keyboard or screen. A  flash drive  may replace rotating media, and a small keypad and  LCD  screen may be used instead of a PCs keyboard and screen. Firmware  is the name for  software  that is embedded in hardware devices, e.g. in one or more  ROM/Flash  memory  IC  chips. Embedded systems are routinely expected to maintain 100% reliability while running continuously for long periods of time, sometimes measured in years.  Firmware  is usually developed and tested to much stricter requirements than is general purpose  software  (which can usually be easily restarted if a problem occurs). In addition, because the embedded system may be outside the reach of humans (down an  oil well  borehole, launched into  outer space, etc.), embedded firmware must usually be able to self-restart even if some sort of catastrophic  data corruption  has taken place. This last feature often requires external hardware assistance such as a  watchdog timer  that can automatically restart the system in the event of a software failure. Mobile Computer Mobile computers are computing devices small enough to fit in your hand. A popular type of handheld computer is the personal digital assistant (PDA). A PDA is no larger than a small appointment book and is normally used for special applications such as taking notes, displaying telephone numbers and addresses and keeping track of dates or agendas. Many PDAs can be connected to computers to exchange data. Most PDAs come with a pen (stylus) that allows for handwriting recognition and some even have tiny built-in keyboards or microphones for voice input. A wireless connection (Wi-Fi) can be used to access the internet with a PDA. PDAs in the later part of this century were converted into phones, cameras, music players and GPS. The demands for PDA phones have been in the increase and of late have been mostly replaced by smart-phones that are equipped with much functionality similar to a computer.
